How To Change your Corvette’s Air Filter

The Corvette air filter in your vehicle is one of the most important components of the engine. The air filter is responsible for helping to ensure that the air, which is mixed with gasoline to create viable fuel during the combustion process, is clean and evenly mixed. Without the air filter in place, the air would not properly combust at a reasonable rate, and the engine performance would be spotty at best, or nonfunctional at worst.

Thus, it is crucial that you be aware of your air filter and change it when appropriate. If you drive your Corvette a standard amount, you’ll probably want to change the air filter in the vehicle every 3000 miles or so. Otherwise, if you live in a place where the air quality is especially poor (such as a big city or an area with lots of pollution), you may want to change it as frequently as every 2000 miles. Step 1 — Gather Your Materials

You’ll need the following tools and materials in order to change the air filter:

-New air filter for your Corvette
-Screwdrivers of various sizes
-Wrenches of various sizes
-Bar to prop open the hood

Step 2 — Prepare the Vehicle and Locate the Filter

First, be sure to have your Corvette parked in a flat, open space where there will be plenty of room for you to work. Allow for several hours from the time that you last turned the car on so that it can completely cool down. This will ensure that you don’t burn yourself or cause some other injury or damage while working.

Next, prop open the hood of the Corvette and locate the engine. The air filter is located in the air-filter housing system. The air filter housing is located along the air intake tube, which runs from the outside of the car into the engine itself. Look for the long tube that connects to the engine on one side.

Step 3 — Remove the Old Filter

To remove the old filter, you’ll need to unfasten the retainer clips that hold it in place. Fortunately, this process is very easy. In fact, the most difficult part of removing the air filter is locating the air filter housing. Use your screwdrivers and wrenches to carefully unfasten the series of clips that exist on the outside of the air filter housing. This will allow you to open up the housing itself and locate the air filter element inside. The element is the small item through which the air actually passes; this is the only part of the filter that you’ll need to change. Remove that by hand.

Step 4 — Replace the Filter

Place the new filter element into the housing unit by hand as well. Be sure that it’s inserted correctly and secure in its place, then close up the air filter housing once again. Fasten each of the clips and retainers by hand or by using your screwdrivers and wrenches. Once the entire system is closed up and secure as it should be, close the hood and remove the bar that props it open.

Turn on your engine to test out the quality of the air filter. The engine should idle and run cleanly and smoothly; if not, you may need to check that the air filter was inserted correctly.
