Change the Headlight on your C6 Corvette

If you plan to change the headlight on your C6 Corvette, you’ll need to know exactly which types of headlights will work to substitute in for the old ones. The procedure that is required in order to change out the headlights is very easy and can be done in just a few minutes at home and without any professional tools. More importantly, changing the headlight on your Corvette C6 is one of the crucial maintenance procedures that you must perform on your car. Without headlights that work properly, you won’t be able to drive the car at night or in dark or confined areas. It’s also illegal to drive a car that doesn’t have working headlights as well. Read on for a brief guide on how to change the headlight on a C6 Corvette.

Step 1 — Gather Your Materials

You’ll need the following materials in order to properly change the headlight on your C6 Corvette:

  • Replacement low beam bulb for the C6
  • Replacement high beam bulb for the C6
  • Philips head screwdriver

Step 2 — Prep the Vehicle

Next, prepare the vehicle. Begin by parking the car in a flat, open space and setting the parking break. Open up the headlight doors so that you’ll have direct access to the various headlight bulb, plug and other apparatuses. You can do this manually by unscrewing the fastener at the side of each headlight door using your screwdriver. You can also do it automatically by quickly opening and shutting the headlights. If you time it correctly, the headlights will be open but will not be powered on. It may take a few tries in order to do this properly.

Step 3 — Remove the Bezel

Next, remove the bezel. The bezel is the part of the headlight door that covers the bulbs themselves. It protects them from damage, but it must be removed in order for you to have full access to the bulbs so that you can change them. To remove the bezel, locate the screws on either side of the outside of the headlight doors. Unscrew them with the screwdriver and keep them in a safe place separate from where you’re working so that you can access them later on.

To remove the bezel, open the hood of the car. Push the base of the bezel out from the inside of the hood area. Be very careful not to scrape the paint or the other equipment in the car as you do so. When the bezel is sticking out from the door of the headlight, remove it from the headlight door with both hands and set it aside.

Step 4 — Change the Bulbs

It’s typically best to switch out both of the headlight bulbs as you get to this step in the process. You can save yourself the trouble of having to access the bulbs a second time by doing this. Simply unscrew the two bulbs at the base and pull them out by hand. The bulbs can also be removed and changed individually, if you prefer; the smaller bulb is the high beam, and the larger bulb is the low beam light.

Replace the bulbs with fresh bulbs and screw them in completely. Close up the headlight doors with the bezel once again. Before you drive your Corvette C6 again, it’s a good idea to check on the status of the headlight bulbs by turning on the lights from inside of the car. If they don’t work properly, tighten the bulbs to ensure a close electrical connection.
