Change the Headlight on your C3 Corvette
If you’re looking to change the headlight on your Corvette C3, there’s no need to take your vehicle in to a shop to have this operation done. Changing the headlights on your vehicle is a very straightforward process that can be completed in just a few minutes at home. Additionally, the procedure itself requires only very basic tools and equipment. Changing the headlights on your car regularly is a good idea; it helps to be sure that the bulb will not go out as you’re driving, which can cause a variety of dangers and safety concerns. It also helps to keep your headlights in compliance with local and national laws as well. Read on for a brief guide to changing the headlights on a Chevrolet Corvette C3.
Step 1 — Gather Materials
You’ll need the following materials in order to change the headlights on your Corvette C3:
- Philips head screwdriver
- Replacement low beam bulbs
- Replacement high beam bulbs
Step 2 — Prepare the Car
First, prepare the car so that it’s ready to have its lightbulbs changed. In order to access the headlight plug apparatus, open the headlight doors. You can do this by quickly toggling the headlights on and then off, thereby keeping the headlight doors open and the lights exposed but the lights should be off and without power, or by using manual means. If you choose to open the headlight doors manually, you should use the Phillips head screwdriver to do so. The manual opening apparatus is located on the side of the headlight doors; read your vehicle owner’s manual for more specific instructions. The car should be in park with the parking brake activated, and the vehicle should have the keys out of the ignition.
Step 3 — Remove the Bezel
Begin by unscrewing and removing the bezel. This item covers up the headlights and acts as a protector. However, in order to gain access to the headlight bulbs themselves, you’ll need to remove the bezel.
Use your screwdriver to locate the screws on the sides of the vehicle headlight doors. Carefully remove these screws, which attach the bezel in place. Keep the screws in a secure place as you work to remove the bezel and replace the headlights; you’ll need these later in order to reattach the bezel.
To remove the bezel, simply open up the hood of the C3. Locate the rear portion of the bezel underneath the hood and gently pull it out with both hands. Be very careful so as to not damage the paint around the bezel or any other parts.
Step 4 — Remove the Bulbs
Next, the light bulbs themselves will be exposed beneath the bezel. The larger bulb is the low beam bulb and the smaller one is the high beam. Carefully unscrew one or both bulbs and dispose of them properly. Screw in the new replacement bulbs securely to be sure that the electrical connection is proper.
Replace the bezel and close up the hood of the vehicle.
Before you drive the Corvette C3 with the new light bulbs, it’s a good idea to check and be sure that the electrical connectivity is working properly. Check to make sure that the lights will work as they should. If they do not, go back in and open the hood once again. Check on the electrical connection for the lights; it may be possible that you’ll have to screw them in further in order to make a complete connection which will work properly for the lights.
