Bullrun Car to be Auctioned at Spring Carlisle

2010 Camaro 2SS/Spirit of the Rally Award Winner to Roll Across the Block
 
Annually, cars cross the auction podium at Spring Carlisle with a story. Sometimes the story is better than the car itself and sometimes the car and story are unlike anything that’s ever been to the Carlisle Auction. This weekend, a rally car will be on the block that, according to its former owner, would have pages of stories to share if it could talk.

As part of the Spring Carlisle Auction, presented by Auctions America by RM, bidders can take aim at a 2010 Camaro 2SS that was driven by Team DieHard and drivers Brian Shannon and Mark Riley in the 2009 Bullrun Rally, a race from New York City to Austin, Texas.
The Spring Carlisle Auction, April 28-30 at the Carlisle Expo Center, will feature nearly 300 cars, however; it’s anticipated that the Bullrun car will draw the attention of many.

This particular car didn’t actually start the 2009 race, rather Brian and Mark met the ride for the first time on a car lot in Nashville, Tennessee after their original entry, a 1987 Buick Grand National, became unable to continue the race.

?I bought the car in a hurry and it was perfect for what I needed,? said Shannon from his Delaware home. ?The car won the Spirit of the Rally award and I couldn’t have been happier with its performance. GM did a masterful job with this machine and while I wasn’t officially testing it for them, by the end of the race, it passed with flying colors.?

The Camaro also competed in additional cross country rallies. The car has been part of at least five competitions and has been from Delaware to Florida, west to Las Vegas, southwest to Texas and a few states in between. Along the way, it covered more than 22,000 miles.

The car is red with white accents and still has some of its original Bullrun decals on it. In addition, it has a 6.2-liter, 462-horsepower motor. The car’s top speed is listed at 155 miles per hour.

Shannon is a car guy and works hard, so he can play harder. ?My affection or maybe affliction, for classic cars, muscle cars and all things related to them gets my blood flowing and turns me into another person when I am behind the wheel,? noted Shannon. Though last fall he sold the car, he’s happy to be reunited with it for at least one night as Auctions America by RM rolls it across the block on Friday. ?I?ll be there,? Shannon gleefully added.

Carlisle Events Partner Bill Miller III also shared his excitement about the car. ?I’m passionate about all types of cars and it’s exciting to be involved with a car like this.?  Miller added that ?it’s great to know that Carlisle Events is now part of this car’s history. We get to watch someone take ownership of this vehicle Friday night and we’re excited to share that experience with Brian. If not for this car, we would have never met him.?

The auction portion of Spring Carlisle runs Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Carlisle Expo center, just a few blocks away from Gate 3 on K Street. As part of Spring Carlisle more than 100,000 people will pass through the fairgrounds gates to browse over 8,100 sold out vending spaces and purchase any of the 2,000 vehicles at the car corral. To conclude the weekend of all things automotive, Carlisle Events presents a Sunday Cruise-In and Junk-in-the-Trunk, a Sunday only vending opportunity.
