The 2011 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible Makes its Detroit Debut

Since the Chevrolet Camaro returned in 2010, Chevy fans have been calling for a topless version, and at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show Chevrolet formally introduced the 2011 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible to the Motor City crowd.  Much like when it made its grand debut in Los Angeles, the Camaro Convertible display in Detroit’s Cobo Hall used the Hot Wheels name to draw attention to their new topless muscle car.

Leading up to the official debut of the GM-built 2011 Camaro Convertible, various aftermarket companies offered their own take on the modern Camaro convertible by cutting the roof off of a 2010 Camaro Coupe. Because of that, we all had a pretty clear idea as to what the topless Camaro would look like.  Not surprisingly, the Camaro lends itself to the convertible form

One of the most difficult situations Chevy had was locating the antenna.  The Camaro Convertible Concept had an ugly ?whip? antenna but as the Camaro Convertible meets production, it uses an antenna integrated seamlessly into the rear spoiler.

One of the most interesting aspects of the 2011 Camaro Convertible is the fact that it shows off the flashy interior of the new muscle car.  While the production Camaro doesn’t have the flash and flare of the heavy-lit Camaro Concept interior, the interior of the production version is very sporty and the convertible shows that off nicely. 

One common issue with cloth top convertibles is that they look awkward when the top is up, but with a large rear window and a very natural roofline with the soft top up, the Camaro Convertible should be a major mover in the muscle car segment.
