Quanta Crafts a High-Horsepower Hybrid Cocktail out of a C6 Corvette

If you want to furrow some brows, all you have to do is mess with the Corvette’s classic performance recipe of a big V8 engine terrorizing two wide tires in the back. Maryland-based Quanta Hybrid Performance is bound to upset some folks, then, by introducing their Corvette QHP770 Hybrid.

While hybrids are anathema to most performance enthusiasts, they are becoming less detested in the age of the McLaren P1, Porsche 918 and LaFerrari hybrid hypercars. Quanta’s new hybrid Corvette follows in the footsteps of those exotics with 770 horsepower … a figure that should ease the furrowing.

Beginning with a 505-horsepower Corvette Z06, Quanta slaps on a couple of 100-kW axial flux electric motors that provide a generous 265-horsepower boost. That’s enough extra horsepower to blow some doors off, but we haven’t gotten to the remarkable bit. The Corvette QHP770 offers 1,500 lb-ft of torque, or enough stump-pulling power to level forests.

Performance specs and pricing have not been announced, although we can speculate with a good deal of certainty that this hybrid C6 is two things: fast and expensive.
