Peter Max Under Fire Again For Corvette Collection

It seems that Peter Max, the famed pop artist who has been blasted by Corvette enthusiasts for letting a prized collection of Corvettes nearly disappear into obscurity, might be guilty of some real legal infractions tied to the cars.

Jeff Wallner and Kenneth Simmons claim that the ‘60s art icon cheated them out of $1 million dollars in commission fees owed for helping to sell Max’s 36 Corvettes, which we first reported on here.

Now, the two men are bringing a lawsuit against the artist, according to a New York Post report. The suit states that Max lied about a piece of artwork sold to a collector, a piece Max claimed to paint, when in fact the work was actually done by ghost painters.

The collection of classic Corvettes, which Max first bought in 1989 from the winner of a VH-1 music project, was once slated to be part of one of Max’s wild art projects. But since then, the cars have spent most of their years sitting in various warehouses collecting dust.

For a lot of Corvette fans, reports that Max had finally sold the collection was welcome news, with the hope that folks who can really appreciate the Corvettes might finally have a chance to buy the cars. Let’s just hope that amid all this new controversy that the Corvettes finally end up in more worthy hands.
