Owner to Reunite with Stolen Corvette After 33 Years
What are the chances of reuniting with something you lost more than thirty years ago? Probably as slim as a penny’s-worth of gold foil. What are the chances of finding a Corvette that’s been missing since 1981? As likely as the most interesting man in the world doing something uninteresting. As likely as Moses parting the seas just for the sake of providing us an encore presentation … I’m talking flatout miracle to the 10th power.
Well, it looks like 71-year-old Detroiter George Talley is dealing with a 10th-power miracle. Last week, he received a call informing him that his 1979 Corvette (like the one pictured) that was stolen 33 years ago in the Motor City had been found in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
Even more amazing, the car still runs and only has 47,000 miles on it. But wait, theres more: to top it off, General Motors has offered to have the car shipped to Detroit for Talley, who retired from GM as a worker at the carmaker’s Milford Proving Grounds in Michigan.
How’s that for a story to share with the grandkids?
