In-Depth C7 Corvette Stingray Review
The C7 Corvette Stingray is just what we’ve been waiting for. It gives us something we’ve wanted not only from the Corvette brand, but from all of GM. In recent years GM cars have been getting closer to world-class quality, but the C7 Corvette is the first GM product that can stand proudly with the rest of the world in all aspects; not just performance. The new ‘Vette is the first GM car that doesn’t fall short in a particular area. As an American, the new Corvette Stingray is a symbol of pride for me … it’s that moon-landing moment for the American auto industry. We’ve finally pulled it off – we’ve finally built a decent world-class sports car that Europeans might actually want to buy.
I can’t get enough of hearing how good the new Corvette is. A C7 review to me is like a morphine-injection button for my American pride. The review you’ll read below is a little different from what you’re used to. It comes from a Corvette Forum post written by member “N8dogg”, a self-effacing man who loves Corvettes more than hipsters love fixed-gear bicycles. “N8dogg” oversees all Corvette operations for a Chevy dealer in Rochester, New York, and in the review below, he makes you Warren G as you ride shotgun to enjoy his story of bringing the first salable Corvette Stingray to New York State. Forum member “Glen e” said in the forum comments, “You have just set the benchmark for reviews here.” We couldn’t agree more. The photos are pretty good, too, so enjoy.
N8dogg’s Journey with the C7 Corvette
Now that I have driven over 600 miles on the all new 2014 Corvette Stingray, I’ve developed enough familiarity with the car to be able to write a review.
A little information about myself:
I’ve been living Corvettes 24/7 for the past 7-8 years. It all started when I took on the position of being a lead service technician for a small used Corvette dealer. Before I knew it, I became a Corvette owner myself. Work became my life. If I was not working on Corvettes during the day, I was out driving mine or going to a cruise night or local Corvette club meeting. Today, I oversee all Corvette operations for a Chevy dealer. I’ve worked on/touched/driven nearly 2,000 Corvettes. Some people would say I’m a Corvette expert, but I’ll never brag or admit to being something I am not. I’m just doing what I love. I am sure there are others that know more about Corvettes than I.
Onto my review of the all new, 2014 Corvette Stingray:
I’m a lucky guy. I’ve been having the time of my life, living Corvettes. I’ve driven some of the sweetest rides – not only Corvettes, but also classics/hotrods/muscle/exotics. From time to time I’ll get an opportunity to travel and bring back a Corvette for the dealership. Because the dealership I work for is new, we have yet to earn the ability of getting the new Corvette early in its production. We have a Corvette department and really want to specialize in Corvette sales and service. It’s important for us to get the new Stingray as soon as possible.
I made some phone calls to other Chevy dealers to see if they had any Stingrays ordered that were available for purchase. We were willing to buy the car for sticker price. I had no luck with Kerbeck. I was laughed at by Mike Furman at Criswell; in fact, he told me I will not find one at any other dealer. My next phone call was with Dave at Bud’s Chevy/Buick in Ohio. I immediately put a deposit on a 2014 Stingray that was in the order system for 2 months. The person who originally ordered the car changed their mind on the color. The order was too far along to make any changes. At that time Chevy showed the car at 3400 status code. I figured we had a good chance of getting one of the first Stingrays.
