Corvette Rated as “Most American-Made” Vehicle

When it comes to carrying that coveted “Made in America” tag important to a lot of U.S. car buyers, the new Corvette Stingray tops the list … well, along with the Ford F-Series, which I think still puts the C7 in pretty good company as far as respected American nameplates.

Both vehicles tied at first place for “Most American-Made” vehicle based on a study by the Kogod School of Business at American University that evaluates the domestic content of vehicles sold in the United States.

The Washington D.C.-based research team used a number of factors to assess the vehicles including profit margin, labor, R&D, transmission, inventory, capital, engine, body, chassis, interior and electrical. Pretty comprehensive, right?

Among all the vehicles tested, the Corvette and the F-Series pickup scored 87.5 on a 100-point scale.

What I find even more impressive is that the study shows that Corvette didn’t have to abandon its core American roots to earn all the global respect it’s now getting in a world that’s been dominated by brands like Ferrari and Porsche.

It’s a good business model that other American companies might want to take note of when striving for more global appeal.

Oh, and one more thing: ‘MERICA!
