Corvette of the Week: a Gift for a Soldier
This is one week you will not only drool over a car, but have a story tug at your heart strings. In 2011, CF member jesters94 had to sell his ’94 Torch Red coupe before leaving on a 7 month deployment to the Arabian Gulf. While he was serving his country, the best wife ever decided she would buy him his dream car: a ’94 Red Brickyard 400 Parade Car.
His wife enlisted his father for help, bought the car about three months into his deployment and somehow managed to keep the surprise a secret until his return; she, his kids, neighbor and entire Corvette club were waiting to surprise him at their monthly meeting. This particular car is one that was used in:
the inaugural Brickyard 400 to introduce NASCAR drivers Harry Gant and Lake Speed to the packed crowd at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The car was then used for a VIP lap and then Mayor Stephen Goldsmith and his wife rode on the back of the car.
There were 25 of these originally sent to the IMS for use on the track, 13 Torch Red and 12 Black. One is known totaled and only 11 of the remaining cars have been located.
Now go congratulate jesters94 and thank him for his service! And don’t forget to congratulate him on his baby boy born this past April!
