Confirmed: New Z06 Automatic will Shift Fast as Hell
Chevrolet seems to be releasing a tidbit every week on the 2015 Corvette Z06 that makes me want one even more.
Not that the 650 horsepower didn’t sell me on the car, but hell, this baby just keeps getting better.
The latest news is confirmation that the new Z06’s eight-speed automatic transmission will shift faster and smoother than the dual-clutch automatic in the Porsche 911 Turbo S, according to an Automotive News report.
Sure, we’d heard about this earlier, but Larry Nitz, GM’s chief engineer for transmissions, has now confirmed it, saying the quicker shifts will be achieved with fast electronic solenoids and other controls.
I’m betting that will change some opinions on the idea of buying a Z06 as an automatic.
The new gearbox is roughly eight pounds lighter than the six-speed transmission it replaces, and the car is also expected to be more fuel efficient than the outgoing model.
Do you think the new Z06 will make other supercars (like the Audi R8 V10 plus) irrelevant?
