Too Good to Be True? Buying a Corvette Owned by General Motors
Let’s say you’ve found your dream Corvette. It’s a 2016, and there’s a steep discount attached to it because the previous owner only had it for a few months. Here’s the catch: the previous owner was General Motors. This very topic was brought up on our forums recently, and the thread brings up some very good points about whether a car like this can be as trusted by an equal measure as one owned by a private seller. One could almost compare this to buying a car that formerly was a rental.
There’s also the chance that the car made the rounds as a press vehicle. That would be an obvious instance where a Corvette was previously owned by General Motors. After all, that’s how we give you our impressions on what the car is like. Heck, some journalists actually like some of those press cars so much, they purchase them!
The other possibility is that it can be very well taken care of, being owned by the company that made it. It springs to mind that an executive might decide to add a company car in the form of a Z06 to his garage. It’s open to debate how an executive or a head honcho would treat a car given to them on the company dime, but that’s a topic for a different post.
