The Tips and Tricks of a Double Clutch

double clutch

Those of us who have grown up after say, the 1960s, have had it easy. Most transmissions have had a synchromesh gear that’s allowed it to be easy to shift in one fluid action. Clutch in, move lever, clutch out. But it hasn’t always been that way. Double clutching allows the movement of engine, drivetrain, and driven wheels to all move at the same rate. It’s an extra step, but one worth knowing for when the time comes to drive a car so equipped.

If you’re an audio type of learner, this is the perfect lesson for you. But for visual learners, a different video might be more sufficient. However, the information here is solid, and important to know. You may be able to go through the steps, but knowing why you must perform certain actions helps in the learning process, at least for me. Personally, I’ve only driven one car that required double clutching, and that was an ancient Fiat 500. I’m doubtful that you’ll be in the same boat some day, but hey, stranger things have happened in life.
