Mr. Regular Calls Cadillac XLR a “Slumlord’s Idea of a Rich Person’s Car”
There are some vehicles that are such easy targets that a little tiny part of you almost feels bad for making fun of them. Then you keep making fun, laugh, laugh some more, and completely forget that you felt bad at all. The Cadillac XLR has been ripe for the wrong kind of attention since it debuted for the 2004 model year. The idea for a Corvette in a Caddy costume seemed like a good idea, and it still looks cool, but in reality, it missed the mark.
Part of that had to do with the fact that the XLR used the old 4.6-liter Northstar V8 engine instead of an LS. The power wasn’t terrible, but it was less than the Corvette’s, so it didn’t make a ton of sense why it was used. It’s the only car that was ever assembled in the Corvette factory other than the Corvette, and it was Caddified with a smoother ride, boxier styling, a hard folding drop-top, and fancier tech like adaptive cruise control. All of that made for a huge price tag of about $75,000 MSRP.
You’ve been laughing at it for years now, how about a few more minutes? In the video below, please allow Mr. Regular to scorch the XLR the way no one else can.
