Is a Flat Tire Enough to Ruin Your Road Trip?
Corvette Forum member Bziggy4 is a new C7 Z06 owner, and ended up with a large sidewall slash in one of his new tires.
As he recounts in the forum, Bziggy4 called the dealer to locate a replacement piece of rubber, and he was notified that the tires are backordered, and it could take more than a week to get a replacement in. Bziggy4 got to thinking and decided that this problem could basically prevent him from ever taking the car on a long road trip. He hates the idea of being stuck 1000 miles from home, waiting a week for a new tire to arrive.
Well, Bziggy4, I think you need a little tough love, and Moe is here to give it to you.
First things first: every time you turn on your new Corvette, you are taking a risk. Every mile, every bump in the road, and every gas station stop is a chance for something to go wrong. That is one of the things that can make road trips exciting: the anticipation of the unknown.
Secondly, it’s just a tire, and there are TONS of options out there that fit your car. Sure, you may have to drive a week with a non-matching tire, but I can promise that there are literally thousands of independent tire stores all around this great nation that would happily replace your tire for you, and you would never have to set foot into a dealership.
Finally, the C7 comes with run flat tires. Unless there is some super serious damage, you can just look after a punctured tire and run that thing for thousands of miles if you absolutely had to. It would be inconvenient to say the least, but it could be done. Hell, I have driven all manner of broken, derelict and barely mended machinery for hundreds of miles. It just adds a little more excitement and thrill to the event. If nothing else, it makes for a good story.
I love every member of our community, we have one of the greatest collections of enthusiasts on the internet, but if one flat tire is enough to keep you from enjoying the greatest car America has ever built, I think it may be time to hand in your Crossed Flags and go buy a Camry.
