How-To Tuesday: Corvette Parking Brake Concerns

One may say that if you are having issues with the parking brake that you should probably consider getting that taken care of as soon as possible. If you are reading this article and are having problems with the brake releasing on its own, then I’m not quite sure why you haven’t already dealt with the problem. Maybe you’re the over-concerned type and want to head off a problem before it potentially becomes an issue? Well, then this week’s How-To Tuesday article is for you!

My initial thought would be that this is something that you may have seen come through a service bulletin via General Motors, but I don’t recall hearing about it. That said, it doesn’t mean there has not been an issue that I’m not aware of. I don’t follow all of the bulletins considering my Corvette isn’t new enough to worry about an electronic parking brake issue. But for you C6/C7 Corvette owners, there is an available fix. That’s the good news. The bad news is that this isn’t one of our easier repairs.

This week’s article (and the corresponding video below) goes into depth on how you can change out your brake shoe and your electronic parking brake module. While the article has only seven steps listed, the time required, as well the level of experience, is fairly high. This isn’t something that I wouldn’t personally tackle on my own, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t do it. Knowing that the parking brake is going to work without a hitch (in theory) after a trained mechanic has made the repair gives me a comforting feeling. If I did it myself, I may park in fear the rest of the time I own the car.
