GM Investing $44 Million to Meet Demand for Corvette Z06
Even amid the criticism that the new Corvette Z06 has taken over the past year, it looks like the popularity of the car is indisputable.
General Motors recently announced that the company is investing a whopping $44 million in the Bowling Green plant to help meet the demand for the supercharged 650-horsepower model, according to a Detroit News report.
The Z06 accounts for roughly one third of all the new Corvettes built at the plant, which is pretty impressive given the typical take rate for higher-performance models.
Apparently, GM had been pretty confident the C7 Z06 would be a hit long before those order banks opened. In 2013, the company invested $3.5 million in the Kentucky plant to relocate its Performance Build Center to the facility. So the plant is now home to the heart of the Z06. And it appears home improvements are in order, which should only elevate the plant’s status as a treasured landmark.
