Do Driving Gloves Make You “That Guy”?

Perhaps like chrome rims, the use of driving gloves might depend entirely on your age. In a recent Corvette Forum thread, member -HAIRBALL- went looking for recommendations for a “good, high quality pair” of driving gloves.

White stitching and nice leather on the steering wheel absorbs all of the sweat, and who-knows-what-else from your greasy mitts. Driving gloves have been stitched together out of various materials, none more popular than the standard issue leather driving gloves that you can imagine worn by Zora above. Back when the drivers were fat, and the tires were skinny.

These days, driving gloves do have an additional use: on the track. Given that a larger percentage of Corvette owners and our members find themselves clipping apexes, proper gloves for the track have multiple uses. For one, they absorb all of that sweat, and by that alone you have better grip on the steering wheel. To further enhance that, different inserts on the palms and fingers are there to grip like a pair of talons. It reduces driver fatigue, because you no longer have to drive white-knuckled. Unless of course you scare yourself behind the wheel.
