Corvette Forum Scoop: Horsepower Figures for Callaway Z06 Announced
Back in April when the Callaway Corvette Z06 was unveiled at the 2015 National Corvette Museum bash, Callaway’s C7 Z06 upgrade package instilled inspiration into the hearts and minds of the Corvette cognoscenti. Amid turmoil of stock Z06s overheating on the track, the Callaway Z06 burst through the saloon doors as the answer track-day heroes were looking for.
But we’ve had to wait until today to find out how much horsepower and torque Callaway’s track day king will be producing. Now that the automotive engineering firm has achieved final calibration and validation, we can report Callaway has massaged the Z06’s 6.2-liter LT4 V8 to 757 horsepower and 777 pound-feet of torque. We have also learned this Callaway Z06 can snap your neck to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds on the way to a 10.5-second quarter-mile ET at 131 mph.
Contributing to that increased power and neck-snapping ability is Callaway’s GenThree supercharger with a triple-element intercooler that Callaway says, “Eliminates the power-robbing heat soak phenomenon that other superchargers inherently produce.”
The heart of the GenThree supercharger system is a 2300-cc TVS rotor pack by Eaton, which is 32 percent larger than the stock Z06’s 1740-cc supercharger. According to Callaway’s testing results, “Inlet air temperature increased by less than 10°F during dyno pulls, compared to increases of at least 35°F with other supercharger systems.”
The advanced supercharger is also connected to a high-flow intake.
Visual touches include Callaway exterior and interior badging, Callaway door-sill panels, Callaway-embroidered floor mats and an underhood VIN plaque.
The $16,995 package is backed by Callaway’s industry-leading three-year/36,000-mile warranty. A five-year/100,000-mile powertrain service contract is optional.
Other package options include a short-throw manual shifter, a sport exhaust system, and the choice of having your new Callaway Corvette Z06 delivered at the National Corvette Museum or the Callaway factory.
For those of you who have been the most vocal about power-robbing heat soak in your C7 Z06s, is this package worth the “My Z06 can keep its cool in any situation” bragging rights? For all the power this upgrade provides, coupled with how well it should be able to stay cool while running with Porsche GT3s and Lamborghini Huracans that cost way more, I’d say the Callaway Z06 represents phenomenal bang for the buck.
If you still doubt this upgrade package is the Holy Grail for C7 Corvette performance, allow me to throw it back 27 years to remind you Callaway knows how to make a Corvette go fast.
