Corvette at Formula DRIFT (9)

Plumes of tire smoke reaching for the heavens like Old Faithful — deafening engines getting the basketball dribble off the rev limiter — Formula DRIFT’s 90-mph tail-out theatrics are more than mesmerizing … they are life-changing. This was my first Formula D event, and I came away from it with two life lessons:

1) Even if you’re not a racing fan (like me) Formula DRIFT will have you hooked.

2) The vehicles on display at the event, whether in the car show section or in the vendor booths, are an attraction in themselves. You know those g-force-activated inflatable seat bolsters in the BMW M5? The show cars bolstered this Formula DRIFT event as nicely as those M5 bolsters … and that reminds me: those torso-huggers need to be offered in the Corvette.

Speaking of options and other upgrades Chevy should bring to future ‘Vettes, I’ve created a forum thread asking what welcome additions you think Chevrolet should have added to Corvettes for 2016, as well as what you think should be added to Corvettes in 2017 and beyond.

You can find the link to that forum thread here.

But before you do that, enjoy this legion of Corvettes I saw at Formula DRIFT 2015 Round 1: Streets of Long Beach. I’ve also included some of the action on the track.
