When compared to previous models, it looks like better fuel economy won’t be on the only green initiative the C7 will be able to own.
According to a recent report from tech news site 3BL Media, General Motors is breaking ground on an 850-kilowatt solar array at Corvette’s Bowling Green Assembly Plant in Kentucky, which will help power the production of the C7. The new plant power source is expected to generate 1.2 million kilowatt hours of energy annually, enough to produce about 850 ‘Vettes.
“Corvette customers are passionate about their vehicles because of their design, technology and precision performance,” said Rob Threlkeld, GM global manager of renewable energy. “Offering them a product that is partially built using green energy will be another proof point that they’re driving a true supercar.”
I suspect that the new green initiative might not mean much to some of the longstanding Corvette fans here at Corvette Forum. But it certainly could help lure some new buyers to the car in the future.
