One of the coolest amateur racing experiences around is OPTIMA’s Search for the Ultimate Street Car. It pits regular men and women from around the country against each other in their own street-driven cars that have been, let’s just say, heavily modified to within an inch of their lives, and are more or less race cars … although they somehow retain their street car moniker.

Of those competitors who bring out some of the most ridiculous cars on the planet, Brian Hobaugh stands out from the pack, and so does his 1965 Corvette. You may have seen Brian’s Stingray on /DRIVE’s Big Muscle hosted by Mike Musto. The Corvette in question is one of the baddest cars around: one that inspires confidence in its driver, and fear in its competitors. It’s also absolutely drop-dead gorgeous. Here’s the episode.

It’s been widened, it’s been tucked. It has massive brakes and tires. It’s the perfect “old-school meets new-school” hot-rod, and it’s easy to see why in 2013, Brian took the overall victory with the car.

This November, he’ll be racing his C5 Corvette at Las Vegas Motor Speedway hoping for another win.
