Born to Run: Bruce Springsteen and His Boss C1 Corvette
Given the popularity of today’s high line cars with celebrities, it is refreshing to see that some celebs preferred our beloved machine that represents the Heartbeat of America. The thundering heartbeat, that is. We know that songs about Corvettes have been written by Prince, David Ball, Adam Gregory, etc (bonus points for those last two). But what about those who found passion in owning them, rather than just writing about them?
One big stand-out is about as American as a Corvette parked at a drive-in theater: Bruce Springsteen. Bruce had quite a name going for himself already, but never expected Born To Run to be the wild success it was. Born in the U.S.A. may have had more top-ten singles, but it was Born To Run that thrust Springsteen into the spotlight as one of rock and roll’s greatest artists.
The success of that album in 1974 prompted Bruce to make a purchase: a 1960 Corvette. It’s still around these days and on loan to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which also displays other memorabilia from that album as well.
Fitting that a quintessential American artist preferred an equally American sports car. It makes you wonder how much different his songs would have been if he preferred imports.
