Unusual Mileage on a New Corvette: What Does It Mean?
High amounts of mileage on any new car can be a concern, but at what point should you start to worry? Surprisingly, higher mileage on your Corvette might actually be a good thing.
It all comes down to post inspection processes at Bowling Green. Two Corvettes each day of production are picked for GM’s Global Customer Audit. The audit is fairly intensive and can be up to four-hours long for fit and finish quality checks and “real world” driving. And then, of course, fixing any problems found. It is entirely plausible that a higher-mileage car had those miles put on during the quality check. In theory, one of these Corvettes would be of higher quality as a result.
The other scenario for high mileage is a bit less common, but it does happen. Some of those miles could be from dealership test drives, or in the case of this buyer, from a Corvette taken out of dealer stock and driven to a car show. There’s always a chance that a rogue employee can snatch the keys and go for a personal joy ride, but the chances of that are very slim.
