Stretched C3 Corvette Chassis Makes for Awesome ’56 Buick Rat Rod

The guys over at Roadkill love their cutting tools. The episode below of the popular MotorTrend show features the slicing up of a C3 Corvette, so if that bothers you, you may want to look away. However, the project that they are taking on is quite cool. They want to re-body this Corvette in a few days, but after some issues with their initial plan, they start to think outside the box. Their plan B involves finding another older car body and putting it on the C3 frame. They end up finding a 1956 Buick Century that’s been nearly consumed by Mother Nature.

The ’56’s body is pretty clean, despite having sat for decades, but the Buick still needs to be completely stripped. At the same time, the Corvette’s chassis is getting stretched. It’s a necessary modification in order to fit under the Buick, which has a wheelbase nearly 2-feet longer. They also have to figure out a solution on where to place the engine. The Buick’s firewall is far closer to the front axle, but no one was really expecting a project like this to be easy, right? The episode ends with the Buick finally on the frame, but there’s still a lot of work left.
