Right-Hand Drive Corvettes Were Never Officially Made for the Aussie Market, so Custom Conversions Became Necessary.
For a country that loves V8 motors so much, the Corvette was never officially sold in the Land Down Under. Made exclusively in left-hand drive, a car like the C6 Z06 was simply off-limits for our ute-loving comrades. By Australian law, any car that is 30-years-old or newer has to be converted to right-hand drive, in order to be properly registered.
Spotted by 1320video doing some 1/4-mile runs in Australia, this converted Z06 is a rare bird. Cost for converting a car to legal RHD status is almost prohibitive. According to John, the owner of the Z06 in the video above, the conversion tacks on an extra $50,000 to the price of the Corvette.
John’s Z06 was converted by Melbourne-based Corvette Clinic. They specialize in RHD conversions for both the C6 and C7, but also for other GM cars, like the Camaro. Although a lot of OEM parts are retained during the process, almost the entire dashboard is made new. Quality of the work is high as well, with only a careful eye spotting the differences from a converted car with its production counterpart. Aside from the steering wheel swapping positions, of course.
