Only Surviving 1983 Corvette Runs Again!

There’s only one remaining 1983 C4 Corvette, and this is it. After sitting for years in the hands of GM, it was revived and brought back to life, and now resides in the National Corvette Museum. This C4, thankfully, was not affected by the sinkhole disaster that struck two years ago.

The strange circumstances surrounding this car comprise a perfect recipe. Technical and production issues continued to push back production to the point that GM put an ax to the idea of a 1983 model year altogether. 43 prototypes were made, mostly used for testing and crash ratings. All, except for this white one were subsequently destroyed.

In the video below, NCM’s Vehicle Maintenance and Preservation Department employed the expertise of Daniel Decker to get the early C4 running again. Leaking fuel lines and a leaking throttle body kept the car from starting initially. Once those were addressed, the rest of the car was checked and refreshed to get it back to running condition. For the first time in decades, it was driven extensively, and then parked on display in the Skydome section of the museum.
