National Corvette Museum Does the Mannequin Challenge

The mannequin challenge is this year’s latest social media craze, sweeping across YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. To perform the mannequin challenge, people remain frozen in place, posed carefully for the camera-person to explore the scene and create a moment in time captured forever.

As you can see in the video below, the National Corvette Museum has decided to participate in this trend, and for good reason: for years, the museum has used actual mannequins in its displays, dressed up like everything from assembly-line workers to racing drivers.

In the video, you can follow the camera through many of the museum’s displays, from CAD design, to production, to the sales floor — even a classic scene of main-street America, with the original 1953 Corvette front and center.

There are even a few faces that should be familiar to Corvette enthusiasts, including cameos by Zora Arkus-Duntov, Bill Mitchell, and Harley Earl — in mannequin form, of course.

It’s a great excuse to re-visit the museum through your computer monitor. It’s been several years since I visited — we’re talking pre-sinkhole era, here!

It was interesting to see what’s changed since I last visited, and it’s got me excited about visiting again and checking out some of the newer exhibits. I guess their viral marketing experiment worked!
