How Do You Properly Close Your Corvette’s Hood?
Everyone has their own hood-closing method, but some resonate better with Corvette Forum members.
Corvettes, being the unique creatures they are, have a hood that opens from the cowl forward for when you want to peek at the V8 lurking beneath. And while you think a hood might be simple, the method by which you close it has sparked an unusually long debate on our forums.
Even the folks at the delivery center in Kentucky have different methods. One forum member cited the delivery specialist pushing on the center portion of the hood, and then the upper center part. Modest success for latching the hood was achieved. Option number two, as stated by a different forum member, had another delivery specialist simply plunking it down from about a foot and a half, and letting gravity to the hard work.

Dropping the hood seemed to be the most popular technique with our forum members. But some folks also had an entirely different approach: setting it down gently on the latches, and then simply using gradual hand pressure to lock it into place. But questions arose if that might pose a risk of damage with having one side momentarily latched, and not the other. Still, some have sworn by decades of that technique. But is it safe for C7s? So far, the “let it drop” method seems to be the safest bet.
