Corvette Racing Tests C7.R Le Mans Racer at Road America

Road America’s unique track layout makes it a perfect testing venue for the C7.R.

The racing season is in full swing, but that doesn’t stop Corvette Racing from performing testing, just to make sure their C7.R racecars are in perfect order. Even though GM’s racing program has celebrated 100 high-profile wins across the globe, most recently at Circuit of the Americas, testing and development is a constant evolution for these cars, with a surprising amount of tech that winds up in road cars.

Of course, one can’t rest on laurels alone, so testing at Wisconsin’s Road America race track is just part of the way Corvette Racing stays on top of the podium.

In the video above, Donut Media tags along with the team and their main wheelman, Tommy Milner, to find out more about the car. Due to rules, the C7.R’s displacement stands at just 5.5 liters, but of course, bespoke internals and race fuel means it can squeeze out just as much power as the road-going version. Under the bright yellow paint work and aero, it uses a chassis essentially from the Z06.

Road car similarities don’t end there either. If you’re familiar with GM’s backup camera system, which warns you of cross-traffic, that was an adaptation of a system used by the C7.R to monitor race traffic behind the car.

The grueling 24 hour race at Le Mans is the team’s next stop, and we hope they keep adding those wins.
