Our Take Is that the New C7 Grand Sport Still Reigns Supreme. But what about CNET’s Take?
Here’s an interesting match up: the 2017 Corvette Grand Sport versus the 2017 Jaguar F-Type SVR.
Okay, we know, it’s really not much of match for any Corvette fan. In fact, we suspect even newbies to the American sport car’s fan club would argue that, considering the new Grand Sport is widely touted as one of the hottest C7 variants to date.
Not to mention the fact that with a price tag of $125,000, Jag’s F-Type SVR costs roughly twice as much as the Grand Sport.
However, it appears that CNET’s “Road Show” has a difference of opinion, as you can see in the video below. In their recent comparison between the two, they argue that while the 460-hp Grand Sport and 575-hp F-Type match up pretty evenly by most accounts, the Jag is the “better car.” Although, if you dig a little deeper into the report, you get the sense that the analysis might all depend on exactly what you’re looking for in a sports car.
For example, if you’re looking for a track-toy, CNET contends that the Grand Sport is a better pick. They also say that the Corvette is roomier than the F-Type. But that the Chevy lacks the level of refinement found inside the Jag.
In effect, CNET drives home a lot of the basic appeals of the Grand Sport Corvette – although they might not realize it. That being, if you’re looking for a pure, track-fun sports car that won’t break the bank, the latest C7 variant is tough to beat.
