One thing that’s not on everyone’s regular maintenance — but should be — is radiator cleaning. In C5 and newer Corvettes, there’s only a small gap between the air conditioning condenser and the coolant radiator. The radiator sits behind the A/C condenser, so spraying the fins from the front wont be all that effective. You’ll have to get in between that gap.
Through the ingenuity of our forum members, forum member wayback has created this simple tool. It’s made out of copper piping and has a hose fitting on one end, and is crimped at the other to make small jets of water. It’s narrow enough to get all the way into the gap between the A/C compressor and the radiator, and the water jets can loosen and push out just about anything that finds its way in there.
Surprisingly, some members are even reporting that this flush of debris helps with keeping the air conditioning running at its best. That makes sense, as a whole lot of leaves and other road gunk will be flushed out. How often should you flush out the stuff stuck in your radiator? Once a year seems to do just fine.
