It’s Time to Give Our Beater Cars a Bit of Love. They Sacrifice So Much for Us

Beater cars are our unsung heroes. They take the stains of oily hands and muddy boots from junkyard runs, and in turn they reward us with long, fulfilling lives. Winters are no match for them either, and road salt is mostly brushed aside. Considering all of the abuse we put them through, their odometer becomes a source of pride.

As you can see in the video below, beaters and part-runner cars come in all shapes and sizes. Our quick list from asking friends includes a Jeep Cherokee, Chevy Cavalier, Toyota Yaris, Mercedes 190e, and more. All of them have their fair share of cosmetic flaws, but that means we don’t really have to care about that next small scratch or stone chip.

Benefits of a beater car are most clearly shown when you get back into your Corvette. Thankfulness sets in. Peel back the cover from winter storage, and your ‘Vette is clean, and ready to hit the road. “Torque is so underrated,” you’ll say to yourself with the first deep prod of the throttle. Grip from the tires actually exists, so you can tackle that first highway on-ramp with pent-up enthusiasm.

Considering all of those great attributes, we won’t judge you for whatever beater car you have. But definitely let us know what it is!
