Chevrolet Celebrates the Corvette’s 65th with New Model
What better way to celebrate a vehicle’s b-day than with a limited-edition model that boasts carbon fiber? Lots and lots of pretty carbon fiber.
America’s sports car, the Chevrolet Corvette, is turning 65 this year. And the automaker has figured out the ideal way to celebrate the vehicle’s birthday – a limited edition model. The new Corvette Carbon 65 Edition, the name doesn’t really have a good ring to it, will be offered on 2018 Corvette Grand Sport 3LT and Z06 3LZ models. Buckle up, because the special edition looks like a beast and, with the powertrains from the available models, will perform like one, as well.
The Carbon 65 Edition is limited to only 650 vehicles globally – interested buyers better hurry – and incorporates numerous bits of carbon-fiber elements to make one bad-looking Corvette. The new Ceramic Matrix Gray paint scheme helps the black carbon-fiber parts on the rear spoiler and quarter ducts stick out.
The full list of components for the special edition-model include: bespoke fender stripes and door graphics, blue brake calipers, black wheels, visible carbon-fiber ground effects, carbon-fiber logo on the center caps, Carbon Flash badges, and carbon-fiber exterior mirrors.
The carbon fiber trend continues onto the inside of the Corvette where there’s a new carbon-fiber-rimmed steering wheel and bespoke touches. Competition Sport seats, Carbon 65 Edition sill plates, and Jet Black suede-wrapped interior with blue contrast stitching are also included in the package.
Carbon fiber isn’t exactly a cheap material. High-performance machines that utilize the lightweight substance usually dip into the seven-figure category. There’s good news, though, as the Carbon 65 Edition package will only cost $15,000 with availability set to start this summer, alongside the new 2018 Corvette.
Man, if this is what Chevrolet did for the Corvette’s 65th birthday, we can’t wait to see what the automaker has in store for the sports car’s other momentous birthdays.
