We Throw Our Emotions at the Grand Sport, Z06, and ZR-1, But the Base Model Corvettes Are Still Corvettes

When you really think about it, to anyone outside of the community, or even to a young enthusiast, a base model Corvette is still a Corvette. Few other cars benefit from this unique situation, where all models have a special magic to them.

Base model C6s, the main focus of this thread, still pack either the LS2 6.0 or the delightful 6.2 LS3. Base C6s up to 2007 got the 6.0, which cranked out 400 horsepower. We don’t know anyone who’d dare call that slow, or in any way “not a Corvette.”

What’s great is that these Corvettes still enjoy the same use as the higher models. Modified versions are aplenty, and even un-touched ones are often found at track days and autocross events. For a lot of people new to the world of Corvettes, base models might just be their point of entry, as well.

In the current era of Corvettes, there’s no suffrage from the emissions-choked engines. Many will recall the L48, which dropped to a lousy 165 horsepower. With those days behind us, we can truly show some love to base model Corvettes, right?
