Are Automatic Corvettes Hit With Lower Resale Values?
Despite our favoritism towards manual transmissions, sales figures show there’s a 3:1 ratio on what gearbox you’ll find in a Corvette, and the win goes to the automatic. This had me thinking: does that mean that the manual transmission Corvettes could potentially have a higher resale value? Do potential buyers seek them out, in order to find “the one,” even though the new 8-speed automatic is really quite good, and doesn’t hold back performance at all?
Supply and demand theories, if taken literally, even the playing field between the two gearboxes. There’s a limited supply of manual cars, but at the same time, sales figures suggest that the demand isn’t there. However, you as a buyer or private seller might think differently.
If I were in the market for a C7, I would seek out a manual, and I’d pass up an automatic. If two similar models were side-by-side with the same options all the way down to the transmission, I could justify spending a little more on the manual. But that’s strictly my opinion. What’s your say on this? Would you justify spending more on a Corvette if the only difference was the transmission?
