Paint Correction 101: How New Corvettes Benefit

Here’s a set of photos that will have you opening your wallet to a weekend paint-correction project.

Paint is one of those things that always grabs your attention, whether good or bad. As nice as some GM paints are, no application process is ever perfect, and even a brand-new Z06 can come off the production line with some imperfections.

Those of you on Corvette Forum are already familiar with moderator Steven Bell, and he’s just completed a full paint-correction process, with a polish and ceramic coating, to amp up the new, lustrous shine.

Wet sanding might scare some people, but that’s the process used to correct paint imperfections. If you’re an impatient person, this isn’t really a DIY project, as it could take more than two days for a professional. You may even be concerned about removing some of the clear-coat, but in Bell’s case, a ceramic coating was applied to the paint to help keep it protected and add an even deeper shine.

Older cars with swirl marks will see an even bigger result from paint correction, especially dark cars with swirl marks in the paint. So why do it to a newer car? Well, it makes the new car look better, the ceramic coating is stronger, and it cuts down the time it takes to wash the car in the future. So, it’s a win-win.
