Mostly Original 23k Mile C3 Corvette Brings Big Bucks
It appears that even low option cars are bringing big bucks these days. All you need is original kit and low miles on the odometer!
The term “original” can be interpreted in many ways. For some, it means 100% correct, right down to the tires, hoses, and window rubber. Others are cool with a few necessary changes needed for basic maintenance. If you fall into the latter group, this particular C3 Corvette, which we spotted on eBay, certainly fits the bill. And with only 23,000 miles showing on the odometer, it certainly qualifies as a find. But is its $42k selling price just a tad high for such a basic car, regardless of condition and mileage?
That’s a heck of a lot of coin for a car with the base 270 hp 350. From the looks of the order copy, this car also has very few options, despite the abundance of them in 1971. They include PO2 full wheel covers, a U69 AM/FM mono radio, and PU9 white lettered F70x15 tires. And that’s pretty much it. Sure, it’s a red-on-red, chrome bumper car. But you won’t find air conditioning or any other fancy doo-dads here.
Obviously, this is a case of supply and demand. There just aren’t many low-mileage C3 Corvette examples left out there in the world. Heck, there aren’t many low-mileage old Corvettes left, period. And even though it has some non-original parts like reproduction tires, this particular car has plenty of good original stuff in place. Like the chrome ignition shield and even the original AM/FM radio.
So perhaps we’re just witnessing another meteoric rise in prices. It makes sense, given the rarity of cars like this C3 Corvette. And even though there are plenty of folks out there that shy away from low mile old cars like this one, there is plenty of appeal here. After all, these cars are only original once!
