One of the things that’s always up for debate is whether or not Corvettes should be driven regularly. Volatile markets have created a mindset that you should preserve Corvettes at all cost. After all, if you decided to sell it in 20 years from now, “never driven in rain” will be in the advertisement for your low-mile appreciating asset, right?
Baloney.
Proof of that is in this C4 ZR-1 dating from 1993. It has only clicked off 22,000 miles, yet has been driven in an autocross or two, and even has…*gasp*…modified parts. Koni yellow shocks along with a Lingenfelter rear differential indicate those 22,000 miles were enjoyed, and isn’t that the point?

The bidding on this Bring A Trailer auction for the C4 ZR-1 was a bit tepid initially, hovering around $10,000. However, this gorgeous survivor ended up trading hands for $22,000, which is respectable. Granted, there are a few things listed under “the bad” part of the listing, but it’s mostly age related. Suspension bushings have rotted a bit, one wheel bearing can do with a replacement and a slightly de-laminating headliner are easy fixes, all things considered. As well, the suspension changes have changed how the servo control works on the suspension.
Is that all that it’s come to in order to get one of these magnificent machines for a low price? For those of us who aren’t afraid to put miles on a car, it’s a dream come true. We can all deal with completely reversible parts and fixable issues.
We understand there’s still the contingent that would prefer their Corvette stored and preserved. That’s their prerogative, and it doesn’t make those owners any less of an enthusiast. We just like seeing more owners enjoy their cars, and we hope this will go to an owner who can keep putting it through the paces.
