Drag & drift car tries its hand at road-course racing.
YouTuber Cleetus McFarland is proving the C5 Corvette is one of, if not the most versatile platform to ever see motorsports. He’s already done drag racing, took a try at drifting, and now he’s at Sebring International Raceway to see how it works on a road-course.
One thing to keep in mind here is that Sebring is known as a car destroyer. Bumpy and uneven surfaces on the track are from the fact it is made from an old concrete airfield, and things that would never break at any other track can be shaken loose or broken in Sebring. Yet, unmodified in any way, “Leroy” would now go and set some hot laps.
To get an idea of how impressive this is, McFarland says: “All we did was change the tires.” OK, to be fair some spacers were also added to prevent rubbing, but realistically, nothing else was changed. The resulting lap times were overly impressive.
Since McFarland had arrived half-way through the day, some of the cars had already been out on track to set lap times. The style of the event was to set average lap times over a certain time period, and Leroy was in the running to have an impressive showing. But the tire rub on the back axle just wouldn’t go away and brakes were starting to get a bit sketchy.
Regardless, Leroy still tackled the corners better than expected, especially for a car made specifically to run 1320 feet at a time. Yet again this shows what can be done with a C5, and a little bit of creativity.
