How-To Spotlight: Open Your Hood with a Dead Battery

When you drive a car that’s dependent on electronics to work key components, a dead battery can be a big challenge.

A dead battery is never something to look forward to. One of the bigger obstacles you have to overcome in newer Corvettes is its dependence on electricity for so many functions. Back in the day all you had to worry about was gas, grease, belts and oil. Now? It almost seems like those items are secondary. So what happens when your battery dies and your hood has an electronic release button? How can you get under it to change the battery when you can’t release the hood?

We all know that older Vettes had manual hood release pulls with a wire release system. No such thing as modern soft button touch tabs for this or that. But what if you have a newer Corvette and it’s dead? Thankfully, the engineers at General Motors thought of this when they were developing and designing the C6 and C7 Corvettes.
