High-Speed Police Chase Ends in a Wild Crash (Video)

It’s everything you want from breaking news.

Police chase videos are always entertaining. You can cringe as some guy in an old hooptie thinks he can outrun an eye-in-the-sky, or watch in amazement as someone weaves through traffic at incredibly dangerous high speeds. This video represents the latter version, with a stolen Corvette being driven by a homicide suspect in Arizona.

Typically, when a chase begins to approach higher speeds, law enforcement officials will back down into what they call “tracking mode.” It lessens the likelihood of erratic and dangerous driving. That really wasn’t happening here. This driver was blowing through red lights, driving on the wrong side of the road, and driving at very dangerous speeds.

Given the getaway car of choice, there wasn’t much that police could do to attempt a PIT maneuver to spin the Corvette out, nor would they risk driving the same way as the suspect. At most, they could only let the helicopter observing overhead give them updated info on the C6 as it happened.

Due to the apparent danger at hand though, a move had to be made. All the police could do is wait for the suspect to make a mistake, get lost or somehow slow down. Thankfully, that slow down did eventually happen. In the middle of an intersection, the Corvette spins, and a police SUV ends the pursuit by ramming the car and pinning it up against a light pole.

Ending the pursuit also meant ending that C6’s existence, however, as the Corvette was pretty thoroughly banged up. But, it’s far better to end a police chase in that “controlled” way than have the suspect crash into someone head-on.
