Dutch Computer Technician Builds Rad Remote-Controlled C6 Corvette

The odds are good that if you love cars, you were into remote-controlled cars as a child. Imagine how much fun it would be to have a remote control for a full-sized vehicle, allowing you to see what your car looks and sounds like in passing as it flexes its muscles. According to Motor1.com, a Dutch computer technician doesn’t have to imagine it, as he has literally turned his 2006 Corvette into a fully functioning remote control car.

The video above was originally posted by the Barcroft Cars YouTube channel and it tells the story of Bjorn Harms and his C6 Chevrolet Corvette. Harms is a computer technician in the Netherlands and after seeing the remote control DeLorean in Back to the Future, he wanted to build his own full-sized remote control car. Rather than using a junk car for this project, the computer genius bought a 2006 Corvette and he began the two-year process of transforming the C6 into a 1:1 scale RC car.

The Build

As the video explains, the project took about two years. During that time, Harms had to figure out how to integrate all of the vehicle controls with his computerized remote system. He had to program his controller to operate the throttle, the brakes, the transmission shifting and the steering system, but since everything in the 2006 Corvette operates electronically, it was just a matter of hooking up to the right electrical systems to control it remotely.

The result is a C6 Corvette that can make quarter mile runs or do burnouts without a driver in the car, and that is just plain cool. A regular C6 is the dream car of many people, but a remote controlled Corvette that can still be driven every day is the stuff that dreams are made of.
