Corvette Z06 Crushes a Huracan in the Eighth-Mile

The difference in power is evident as the Corvette dominates this battle of modern supercars.

Even though the C7 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 has a price starting at roughly 40% of the price of the Lamborghini Huracan LP580-2, these two modern supercars are often compared. Some people would guess that the $200k Italian exotic would make short work of the C7 Z06 – or at least keep up – but as the video below from High Tech Corvette shows, that isn’t the case.

The Competitors

The C7 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is powered by the modern LT4, delivering 650 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque from the supercharged V8. That power is channeled towards the rear wheels (in this particular car) via an 8-speed automatic transmission that shifts every bit as quickly as the modern dual-clutch setups.

It just so happens that the Lamborghini Huracan LP580-2 in the near lane features one of those modern dual-clutch transmissions, mounted to a naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10 that delivers 571 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque.

Corvette Z06 and Huracan

The Lambo is at a huge disadvantage in horsepower and torque, but with a curb weight right around 3,000 pounds, the Huracan is almost 600 pounds lighter than the Chevy. Will that weight advantage for the Huracan make up for the power advantage of the Vette?

No.

The Racing Action

The video above shows three eighth-mile drag strip races between the Lamborghini Huracan LP580-2 and the C7 Chevrolet Corvette Z06.

In the first race, the two cars get out to an even start, but as they had down track, we can see that the Corvette is pulling ahead. The Z06 crosses the finish line in just 7.57 seconds while it takes the Lambo 8.08 seconds.

Corvette Z06 Trails Huracan

In the second race, the Lamborghini gets out to a healthy head start, forcing the Corvette to do some chasing. Thanks to the big head start, the Huracan crosses the line first with a time of 7.97-seconds, but the Corvette gets from end-to-end much faster, running a 7.29.

Finally, in the third race, the Corvette gets a small head start and when the Lambo runs into traction issues near the starting line, the C7 cruises to victory with a time of 7.40.
