C7 Z06 Race

C7 Z06 faces off against Mercedes-AMG GT-R in an intense race against the clock.

There are some matchups on the track that leave you anticipating that last stretch to the finish line. C’mon, admit it: Even as a diehard Corvette fan, there are times when you come across a video clip of the Chevy sports car in some high-revving duel where you prefer seeing a close race rather than the ‘Vette just annihilating a competitor.

Then again, maybe not.

Either way, the C7 Z06 is no stranger to close, competitive finishes on the raceway. Ever since the more track-ready C7 variant made its debut, it’s been a competitor of choice for those looking to prove their car’s worth on the track. In fact, it has yielded some pretty interesting races during the seventh-gen Z06’s short reign on the planet. And yet, of all the clips we’ve seen of a C7 Z06 battling on a racetrack, this YouTube clip (posted by Sport Auto) is one of the hardest to predict.

After all, as Road & Track points out, the Mercedes AMG GT-R and the Z06 share a lot of common traits. Namely, both vehicles are two seat, front-engined, rear-drive sports cars that tout some pretty impressive performance stats. Though, the American sports car steps into the ring as the most powerful of the two contenders, with a supercharged 6.2-liter that puts out 650 horsepower and 650 lb.-ft. of torque.

The Mercedes-AMG GT R is equipped with a twin-turbo charged 4.0-liter V8 that pumps out 577 horsepower and 520 lb.-ft. of torque. However, what the German car lacks in power, it makes up for in what has been described as one of the fastest-shifting seven-speed dual-clutch transmissions ever paired with a production V8.

We’ll spare you the spoiler, but this is one showdown you definitely don’t won’t to miss.
