Chitwood Thrill Show Corvette Is an Incredible Piece of History

This “thrilling” 1958 Corvette defied all odds to survive not only countless stunts, but also the ills of time!

In this world, there’s no shortage of historically significant Corvettes. From rare factory builds to one-off race cars, we’ve seen some truly special rides over the iconic sports car’s history. But this particular car, known as the Chitwood Thrill Show Corvette, might be one of the unusual ones in existence. Purchased by race car driver Joie Chitwood of “Thrill Show” fame, it’s actually pretty amazing that this 1958 Corvette still exists at all.

But here it is, currently offered for sale by Pro Team Corvette. This very car performed countless stunts in its time, jumping over giant ramps and thrilling crowds across the nation. And even better, the fully restored, three-owner beauty has accumulated only 18,700 miles over the years. How many of those miles were spent flying over ramps, we’re not sure.

Aside from that distinction, the Chitwood Thrill Show Corvette isn’t your average ’58, either. For starters, it’s one of only 1,007 fuel-injected Corvettes built that year. Following an extensive nut and bolt restoration, it snagged an NCRS Top Flight award. And it’s chock full of rare options including a 4.11-geared posi rear end, big brakes, and radio delete.

Along with substantial documentation, all of the original goodies are here, too. That includes the spare tire and jack, trunk mat and liner, and correct fuelie bits. It’s hard to fathom that the car held together so well given its history, but that just makes it even more special. While countless race cars met their demise over the years, this stunt-happy Chitwood Thrill Show Corvette is still around. And even better, it serves as a reminder of an interesting footnote in Corvette history!
