Camaro ZL1 Chases a Ford GT Around the Track

Can a Camaro really beat a pure-bred, mid-engine sports car? What does this mean for the ZR1 or even a mid-engine Corvette?

Sometimes you have to give credit where it’s due. The Other Guys have one heck of a car on their hands in the Ford GT. It’s got Corvette fanatics all over drooling over the possibility of a mid-engine Corvette yet again, if only to send the Blue Oval boys crying all the way back home to Dearborn.

However, it looks like Chevrolet won’t have to get the big guns out just yet. This video shows a lap battle at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course between a Camaro ZL1 and a Ford GT. The Camaro stays stuck on the Ford’s tail like flypaper before finally overtaking it with a thumbs up shared between the drivers.

Yes, it’s a Camaro, and this is CorvetteForum. But when you consider that the manual Z06 is unofficially three seconds faster around the Nürburgring, it makes you wonder what a battle between a Z06 and a Ford GT would look like.

Most impressively, the ZL1 never loses sight of the Ford GT once, keeping the pressure on until the very end. We can only imagine the pressure the Ford GT driver felt, and we have to give them props for not losing their composure and maintaining a good line. We would have been sweating for sure.

Another point to mention is the performance of any given car comes down to the ability of the driver. Both drivers in this video were clearly experienced and really knew their way around a race track. It was supremely entertaining to watch right up to the end.

All in all, it’s an amazing chase video. What a time to be alive when your blue-collar muscle car can give a $400,000 supercar a run for its money. There really has never been a better time to be a Chevrolet fan.
