The concept of modernizing classic cars isn’t anything new. But this abomination proves vintage Volvo and modern Corvette just don’t mix!
Our endless journey to discover cool Corvettes is mostly rewarding. But sometimes, it also takes us down some pretty dark paths. Of all the strange and downright cringe worthy cars we’ve seen recently, however, none compares to this Frankenstein-like abomination. We spotted the unholy union of a C4 Corvette and 1967 Volvo 1800, otherwise known as the “Volvette,” while perusing eBay. And we’ve been trying to bleach our eyes ever since.
The madman that came up with this seemingly impossible creation is at least clearly proud of it. And rightfully so, because we can’t imagine that work that went into grafting vintage Volvo sheetmetal onto a modern Corvette. But then again, we also can’t imagine why anyone would want to do something like this in the first place. Apparently, the motivation was to “create a vehicle that appears to be a modern looking Volvo 1800, but with all the amenities of a modern vehicle.”
As you might’ve already figured out, those two things are not alike. And they don’t exactly go together very well. We totally understand the concept of modernizing classic vehicles. Which many professional car designers have done masterfully. But in this case, the end result looks like someone tried to cross breed a monkey with an elephant. In other words, it just doesn’t work.
Regardless, there’s at least one person in the world that disagrees. And that’s probably about it, because this disfigured Corvette and Volvo hybrid didn’t garner a single bid with its lofty $29k starting price ($40k buy it now). We don’t doubt the seller’s claim that “the amount invested in this custom professionally built car far exceeds the buy it now price.” But you know what they say about a fool and his money!
