Sales of early production models will benefit charities.
Special edition models of the C7 haven’t been very prolific so far, but the introduction of the 65th anniversary “Carbon” edition has changed that. With only 650 Corvette Carbon 65’s being produced, GM had the idea to take early examples and send them to auction with the intention of raising money for charity. They accomplished that goal.
Starting with the very first production model, GM had it signed by none other than former president George W. Bush. Selling on January 20th, that model went for an incredible 1.4 million at the Barrett-Jackson event in Arizona. However, the second one remains a bit obscure. It was auctioned off at ADESA Los Angeles on the 25th, but a price was not disclosed.
GM Financial, who were responsible for putting the other Corvette Carbon up for auction won’t disclose how much it sold for. However, since the sale was to benefit a charity, we can only assume it took home a significant sum.
What makes the Carbon 65 editions special? Well aside from the early production models, the package is limited to a run of 650. Oh, and only available on Grand Sport and Z06 trim lines. The carbon trim is what you expect: door sills and side mirrors are draped in the lightweight material. Additionally, on the inside, many of the trim pieces are carbon fiber. Other special items on the Carbon 65 include competition style seats, and unique stitching and trim colors.
We’d be interested in finding out how much the other Corvette Auctioned for, but until we know for sure, all we can do is speculate. Start guessing!
